Windmill Road, Millisle, Newtownards, Bangor, Down
Now around two centuries old, it was worked as a mill by the McGilton family until 1915. After that, it lay disused for many years, but after much painstaking repair and reconstruction by what is now the Department of the Environment in Northern Ireland, the mill ground its corn again in 1978. It can, therefore, work, but is not normally operational during the visiting hours, which are indicated on a notice-board outside.

Templeshannon, Enniscorthy, Wexford
The stump of an old windmill on top of a hill overlooking the town of Enniscorthy and the surrounding countryside. During the Rebellion of 1798, the Irish insurgents encamped on the hill and flew their banner from the windmill. But General Lake stormed the hill on 21 June with 13,000 men; the flag was torn down and replaced by the English Royal Standard. Only the shell of the windmill remains....

Take the first turn left after the village for Broadway and Tacumshane. Turn left again for Tacumshane (5 km) and its windmill, one of only two intact windmill in Ireland. Built in 1846, the mill was used until 1936 and was renovated in the 1950s. Key obtained from the nearby shop. Nearby Tachumshin Lake is a favourite with bird watchers as it attracts some rare American waders in Autumn, as well as internationally important concentrations of Bewick's swans, Brent geese, wigeon, oystercatcher...
